Alienware laptop screen wont turn on

Its disappointing when your beast an alienware m18 or alienware m14x wont turn on. We will cover a couple of things you can do on your own before you start paying for any technical support. The first option would be to do a hard reset or hard shutdown of your alienware. Is the charger transmitting power. Some alienware adapters have LED light indicator that turn either blue or green when they are transmitting power.

If your charger has the LED light on then check battery next. If the LED light does not turn on, change the wall outlet that you are plugged into. If you are connecting through an adapter or surge protector, connect directly to a wall socket. If the LED lights on the charger turn on that means your surge protector is not working as designed and might be the one affecting the computer system. If your charger is the problem purchase one on Amazon cheap or on this link.

Simply remove the battery connect the charger and turn it on without the charger. If it still does not turn on do the hard reset method above. Press and hold power button for 20 seconds then switch it on. The laptop should turn on even without the battery connected as long as its connected to the charger. Get the proper battery otherwise you will run into more problems.

What to do if alienware shows no lights. Normally even if the laptop is off and you connect a charger charging light should come on. So if there are no lights, check your power supply, your power button may also be faulty but that rarely happens. If you have checked that, then check your displays. Your laptop screen can also be disconnected. If all the lights are on, and the fans are firing you might be having display issues.

Move your laptop screen slowly back then forward, towards you and back and see if it flickers. If it does flicker then the cable connecting the motherboard to the screen has issues. Another easier way to test would be to use an external monitor as described above. If you computer is overheating, it will automatically shutdown to protect itself from being fried.

Overheating maybe caused by a number of issues for example a malfunctioning fan, your processor needing thermal paste, poor ventilation and so on. If you suspect your alienware is overheating, check the fans first. Are they spinning. The fans should spin no matter the temperature as part of the self test. If you are doing resource intensive tasks make sure your alienware has good ventilation. The laptops are optimized for cooling the computer, interrupting the airflow supply by mistakenly covering the air vents may prove disastrous.

Also dust may cover the air vents, a tin of compressed air can clear the dust.I bought a used Alienware a couple years ago. Ran like a champ once I got it to finally download and install the Windows patches. A month or 2 ago I tried turning it on and had to do a song and dance with the battery and power plug before it would start. It would restart after I got it to boot once, but if I shut it down and came back the next day, it would no longer boot. It won't even get to the bios screen when it does this.

The power light comes on and that's it. If I remove the battery, plug into AC, and press the power button, then the power light will come on and after a minute or 2 of sitting there in that state, it will beep a few times sometimes once, sometimes seven, it's very inconsistent and start right up. Sometimes it comes up with horrible resolution and sometimes it won't recognize my wifi card. After that, I reboot and everything runs normally.

I've ran the pre-boot Dell checks and it has never failed anything. Another issue I've had since i got the PC is if I try to access the performance menu in bios, it will lock up and need to be restarted.

Beyond those issues, the thing runs great. I've fixed some weird stuff in the past, but I can't think of anything to really solve this besides maybe the CMOS battery, but anytime that has failed in the past on any computers I've worked on, the clock has stopped functioning properly between boots. This has never had such an issue. Hi Jasongalley First things first Here is what you need to understand to know what is wrong Capacitor are meant to store charge but when compromised they tend to drain out all of it hence it takes time to charge it up again.

If it boots, you have verified your RAM to a further extent, as well as your processor. Access your windows files from within Parted Magic, Very easy --click on the desktop icon "File Manager" that is automatically on the desktop on boot You may have to mount your HD first.

Parted magic loads all files into RAM so once its booted, you can copy, paste, and even remove the flash drive and your system will be fine. If you complete steps you have verified all hardware good enough, and your problem is software with the windows OS. But now that you have your data, feel free to try to repair your OS by hitting F8 and boot into safe mode, or blow away the OS and re-image from scratch. If you cant complete these steps, then the hardware that was "supposed" to be verified by completing that step Anybody who tells you anything else is either illegally distributing it or you will download a virus along with it.

Download a "key finder" don't have a FREE recommendation, sorry--but they do exitst program to locate your windows 7 key, if you cant find the product sticker. Download a windows 7 ISO from your manufacturer site if you do not have one. You can't download windows 7 from Microsoft as they will say your product key is from a manufacturer, please contact them. Only Official. Make sure your data is backed up, you have your product key, and now, make your Windows USB and image your computer.

Everything is pretty much aided with a wizard in the windows setup process, so you should be good. Remember to install all windows updates, and drivers from your manufacturer website If a component USB, Ethernet port, or sound for example stop working right when you install windows, it is a lack of driver, not a hardware issue, so rest easy. Even if you still want to get rid of it, I would recommend going through this cycle at least once for the learning experience.

You will understand how to repair computers much better if you try all these steps. Granted there will be variables and one offs but for a general idea and training, I recommend giving it a try. Also, I spent so much time playing with different Linux distros before deciding to go back to Windows 7 that I missed the Windows 10 free upgrade deadline. I was definitely confused by the OS remark as well, but faulting capacitors definitely would make sense.

Thank for the input everyone.Menu Menu. Search Everywhere Threads This forum This thread. Search titles only. Search Advanced search…. Everywhere Threads This forum This thread. Search Advanced…. I hoped most of that was software. I was able to fix it at the time by changing my settings to hibernate, and plugging the pc into a different monitor to fix the screen.

After that it seemed to work fine, for a while. But then the power outs started to occur. Every so often after I turn off the pc or close the lid, the next time I use it, it wouldn't turn on.

Absolutely no power, fans, lights screen or anything. I used to be able to fix this by opening it up, unplugging the battery, taking the memory out and reset CLRP touching it with metal plier, and then performing a power drain, before I plugged in the power cable to turn it back on.

This worked every time constantly, until now. It wont turn on for anything. Like not even the power light flashes or anything. I'm scared there might actually be something wrong with the motherboard.

Idk what else to do to get it working, without having to replace everything and spend a ton of money.Discussion in ' Alienware 17 and M17x ' started by AryaJun 27, Log in or Sign up. Can't even get to the bios screen. I am at the point were I wan't to tear down the machine and try and fix it myself. It would be nice if I could get some suggestions. Nothing has been tried so far. RexxxyJun 6, It shuts itself off at random? Even with a full battery? No, I must have poorly explained it. The unit itself cannot boot what so ever. Everything else is off. I suspect it might have something to do with a Ribbon Cable not being attached but I'm not laptop savvy.

Please help me out guys and gals!. I may have done it wrong, I don't know. But it didn't help Ohhone more thing. When I try and boot the unit, I cannot turn it off without removing the batteryThe power button doesn't work. Sound like the motherboard is D-E-A-D. That or the BIOS became so corrupted that the system cannot power on properly. Both scenarios lead to the motherboard being replaced.

Despite the warranty being expired, I'd call Alienware and explain the situation. My cousin is a IT tech-for-hire, so I know how much they overcharge. It's really not hard and a job done fast. No need to close it first, so you may double check. Since you got power for one sec, I pretty much doubt this'll be the problem, but always worth a check I think.

If you still have warranty, don't even open it! Good luck for now! BlauwhelmpjeJun 6, Thanks for the fast responses. I'll probably give that one a try Blauwhelmpje.

Apr 6, 25,12, There could be a problem inside it after they worked on it. If the person who did the work was not careful enough they could have pinched, bent, damaged, knocked loose, etc.

alienware laptop screen wont turn on

This could make it not work when closed as it gets moved, etc. If it is still under warranty, I would contact them about it. Don't open it yourself as they could void your warranty then. May 30, 2, 1 21, I know this will sound silly, but have you ever tried just re-closing the lid and opening it up a second time? I have an HP laptop that does what your Alienware lappy does, but opening the lid twice always solves the problem.

Worth a try. OvidiuC Prominent.
